Marilla says that a large family was raised in that old house long ago and that it was a really pretty place, with a lovely garden and roses climbing all over it. It was full of little children and laughter and songs, and now it is empty, and nothing ever wanders through it but the wind. How lonely and sorrowful it must feel! Perhaps they all come back on moonlit nights, the ghosts of the little children of long ago and the roses and the songs and for a little while the old house can dream it is young and joyous again.

Those two trees really dominate this landscape with their stately presence! Great find!
I love your image, the birds flying through make that little extra! The story is wonderful.
Joli paysage avec ces deux grands arbres.
Great to see the house and the 2 big trees
oh that is so sad!! Tom Waits has a song called ‘The House Where Nobody Lives’… you should have a listen, it goes with your picture! which is lovely btw.
The car tracks are a nice leading line. I like the framing of the house with the trees. Nice clouds. Birds a good touch. Great composition.
A beautiful photo with a great composition, the flying birds is a fine extra.
The lead in tracks and the pair of trees along with the birds makes this look almost staged…but staged beautifully Sherri
Lovely image, Sherri – and how lucky you were to have a skein of geese passing by!
This is a haunting image. For some reason I am always attracted to abandoned houses and they always make me wonder about who lived there and why they left. There is such a story to be told. A very beautiful composition.
This image seems a little sad or lonely to me. Even the line of geese flying in the distance don’t bring comfort. Lovely shot.
A truly wonderful farm/homestead shot. The words you posted could have been written expressly about that spot.
Sad to think such a lovely homestead has been deserted. I see you caught a skein of birds
Immensely beautiful and superbly atmospheric.
Wonderful perspectiv to houses and birds in the sky … I think there’s a lot of life stories there even if it’s empty!
a lesson for us all there. A nice painterly quality to this image
This reminds me of when I have gone back to childhood homes from eons ago and they’re nothing like how I remember them. It does make you wonder how our memories live on in us like dreams and figments of our imagination! (sigh)
I like the nostalgic feel of this photo. It brings back memories of my grandparents’ farm.
you framed this old abandoned house nicely even with the geese flying south Sherri…
the quote from Lucy Maud Montgomery… fits right in with the atmosphere….peter:)
Ce vol d’oiseau ces maisons e ve maison ces traces superbe
Amitié
Superbe encore cette vieille maison. Un vol d’oies qui passent peut-être la famille qui vivait là avant ?… )
appealing image, Sherri. i feel like it could be from any time in the past hundred years or so.
