The oaks and the pines and their brethren of the wood, have seen so many suns rise and set, so many seasons come and go, and so many generations pass into silence, that we may well wonder what the story of the trees would be to us if they had tongues to tell it, or we ears fine enough to understand.

I have seen many woods like this, and many forests of pine trees in the mountain states. I recently saw a new kind of forest, at least for me. It was the moss covered rain forest of the Olympic Peninsula.

I totally agree with whoever said that, Sherri. These thickets have also heard all the trees that have fallen, even with no one else AROUND! 🙂

I love this quote — it has so much meaning and variants of meaning. And, of course, so apt a quote for consideration on this Earth Day as well. Your photo of the forest is so beautiful.

They would say, “You’re killing us with your climate change!” A lovely forest scene.

I’ve heard there’s a forest hiding behind those trees.
