The wind blew; not up the road or down it, though that’s bad enough, but sheer across it. For a moment it would die away, and the traveller would begin to delude himself into the belief that, exhausted with its previous fury, it had quietly lain itself down to rest, when, whoo! he would hear it growling and whistling in the distance, and on it would come rushing over the hill-tops, and sweeping along the plain, gathering sound and strength as it drew nearer, until it dashed with a heavy gust against horse and man, driving the sharp rain into their ears, and its cold damp breath into their very bones; and past them it would scour, far, far away, with a stunning roar, as if in ridicule of their weakness, and triumphant in the consciousness of its own strength and power.

Thank you for your visit and comment on my photoblog !
I like very much this photo, minimalist composition, perspective, feeling of empty space, solitude, and wind !
Beautiful soft tones and work on the textures !
perhaps the wind was carrying that bit of inspiration to Charles Dickens so that he could write it down… 🙂 gorgeous picture!! i love the cool hues and that texture!
A amazing depth in this landscape photo, I like the vertical framing.
An excellent PoV with leading lines that give this composition great depth!
The wind has no barriers in that big wide open space. I can feel its icy grip in this beautiful image.
i love the framing and the vanishing point Sherri… great b&w treatment….peter:)
Great depth in that amazing flat landscape. A wonderful shot.

I like the feeling of desolation with these muted colours
Gorgeous! Superb exposure and framing.
This image has a cold desolate feel. I’ve driven through this kind of countryside in winter and the cold is no joke.
Beautiful atmosphere
A seemingly simple image that tells a story. I can imagine being there. Powerfully descriptive quote.
