When I was twelve, I went hunting with my father and we shot a bird. He was laying there and something struck me. Why do we call this fun to kill this creature who was as happy as I was when I woke up this morning.

A beautiful landscape view with great DoF! I love the birds doing the “high wire” act. I must agree with Marv Levy. If I experienced that at that age, I would have probably become a vegetarian.
A fine picture Sherri. I agree with Mr Levy.
oh dear, what a dreadful thought, yet so very true — that Marv Levy put things clearly in perspective.
I surely do love these images, oh yes.
A nice old fashioned looking picture with birds on the electricity wires, beautifully done.
Très belle photo joliment traitée, que oui pauvre oiseau !… )
What a very fine editing landscape is this
A beautiful image and especially wise words in our society awash in guns.
I had an experience much like that myself with my father and brother as a kid. Never wanted to hurt any animals again. I like the processing and the grand sky.
Lovely view which you have processed beautifully.
I totally agree with that quote. I have no idea what enjoyment people have about ending the life of another living breathing creature. This is a beautiful scene. It is just so peaceful. I love the processing.
That is an extraordinary scene. I am loving it. The shot itself is great and the added texture really lifts it.
I usually don’t like wires in landscapes, but these are necessary to support the birds, and have the added benefit of casting two line shadows across the road.
I’m not sure I “get” the textures you use over the sky on this and your last post. I kind of like the irregular almost pattern-less smear, but the clear patches here and there seem to draw my eye into spots that have no importance.
And yeah, that quote… I shot birds and squirrels a few times when I was young… it made sense then, but looking back.
When you say it that way, Sherri, it breaks your heart. But the image as it stands (with no dead birds) is the America of old many of us still remember.
The gratuitous abuse of nature and callous lack of respect for all life is leading to disaster for us all, unless we make a huge effort to turn it around
noooooooooo, kidding on the hunting!!!!!!!! ugh, i wish i could stay vegan!!!!
gorgeous processing!!!!
I don’t get hunting. It eludes me.
Like in a dream
Very beautiful “painting”! Your processing is excellent as always. I agree with the quote. Although I don’t think I could be vegan… and I understand hunting for food – having grown up in Wyoming… I don’t see how they do it. I just could never see a beautiful creature, and wish to take it’s life.
Powerful quote. I very much like the texture you used on this image.
