i’m going to cook this weekend. take my grandmother’s recipes, add the spices of the deep south, kick back, gather, eat, live
Nothing is more memorable than a smell. One scent can be unexpected, momentary and fleeting, yet conjure up a childhood summer beside a lake in the mountains; another, a moonlit beach; a third, a family dinner of pot roast and sweet potatoes during a myrtle-mad August in a mid-western town. Smells detonate softly in our memory like poignant land mines hidden under the weedy mass of years. Hit a tripwire of smell and memories explode all at once. A complex vision leaps out of the undergrowth.

Those smells always bring back wonderful memories.
Wow, I have two blog posts I have already written, both are in the scheduled lineup, on these very topics: the family recipes and how certain smells conjure memories. Great minds.
May you relish in your cooking this weekend and allow all sorts of fond memories to simmer to the surface.
nicely isolated subject
Magnifique, laissant de bons souvenirs. )
A splendid image of this gorgeous vegetable.
So much of what we enjoy with food is the smell. That is why nothing tastes so geed when we have a cold
Superb B&W !! The memories of smells are an important part of the life
Lovely contrast in this b&w, good composition.
What would a lot of food be like without garlic!!! Do you know, when a recipe asks for one love of garlic, I usually use the entire head. HA! You can never have too much garlic, right? 🙂 Enjoy your cooking this weekend…and don’t be stingy with the garlic.
you capture its papery wrapping nicely
Une magnifique réalisation !! j’adore Et un superbe texte !!!
Quelle belle prise originale, c’est tout beau! Bisous, bon samedi dans la joie!
A beautiful image of the garlic. Your observation about smells is exactly right.
AH memories of garlic. A former landlord used to take garlic bulbs for lunch every day and eat them raw. He worked in a olace with sensitive machinery and was always causing issues due to the strong smells. This photo reminds me of him.
EXCELLENT !!!
If I were garlic grower, I’d ask / buy you image for advertising.
Enjoy your cooking this Weekend
I did not think that a bulb of garlic could be romantic
i do not know of any specific item that asks for garlic but i slip in some cloves every once in a while. loved the photo!
Have cook fun together with your grandmother and eat tasty, nice photo as a presentation.
Fine shot, Sherri!
i am allergic to garlic, sadly but finding out ‘what it was’ has changed my life.
That is a lovely shot. We grow a few hundred garlic every year so have lots to cook with and lots to give away.
Cooking!? Who does that with it? 😉 I much prefer it raw. (Love the typography btw!)
Quelle gousse quel rendu et forme sueprbe vue
Amitié
Beautiful still in ‘wraps’ garlic pic, like a present, great presentation.
Great achievement for a beautiful evocation of cooking odors and taste !
I like the stark monochrome that makes the pungent bulb appear like a ghost in the night …
And I fully agree about the power of smells to evoke memories. In my case, it’s the smell of blooming lime trees that conjures up the days of my childhood!
superb work!
Indispensable ingrédient utilisé dans la cuisine provençale et qui me rappelle des souvenirs d’enfance.
I appreciate garlic in cooking, too. Hope you enjoyed yours

love the picture, garlic that takes me back to when my bestie and i would go to a restaurant for ceasar salads that were so garlicy that it would burn our senses lol then one day they changed the recipe to garlic powder in moderation… tasted like poo… we never went back again… fave garlic memory that didn’t have to end…
Great clarity captured in this shot! Sounds like you had a great weekend cooking! I can only imagine what the house smelled like. 🙂
