if you dig out and place a man-made pond in a lovely meadow where a tree is living, you will kill the tree
Of all the means of expression, photography is the only one that fixes a precise moment in time. We play with subjects that disappear; and when they’re gone, it’s impossible to bring them back to life.
— Henri Cartier-Bresson said that
The skeletal remains of the tree have such an empty feeling. It was once a magnificent living thing.
Henri Cartier-Bresson is one of my favourites.
Trees are beautiful even in death.
it is sad to see a dead tree even if it makes a fine photo subject
Indeed, too much of water, but good image !
I have seen this happen on a local place called the Somerset Levels, where a whole little wood has died. There is virtually nothing left of it now
Une belle silhouette pourtant, dommage.
Whole villages have been buried when large ponds have been dug to make reservoirs
Une belle photo et une très belle citation photographique et je suis bien d’accord.
This solitary tree in the middle of the water is well photographed, sad and atmospheric photo.
it has a stark beauty in death though
Very sad.
I am sensing a dark undertone this week. There is a sadness in this beauty.
What a shame – but it is hanging on in there to tell its tale.
Cet arbre sec et les pieds dans l’eau quelle vue il est immense
Belle soirée
This tree stands stoically as it perseveres in the water!
so true, about the tree in the meadow and the perfectly paired quote by Henri Cartier-Bresson.
Superb composition . Trees are alive , they live and die…
this is an excellent composition… even in death the tree remains majestic Sherri….peter:)
Some of the beauty remains.
yes, that tree is definitely over watered…. poor tree!
Yes true, but allow Sherri to take a good picture. 🙂
We have submerged an entire country, the only thing that rises from the water is the bell tower of a church, I have a picture but it is still on paper, I should recover a scanner.
It may become a habitat for birds or critters. We can hope so.
and i imagine no birds nest there in the bare branches, Sherri.
Oui, c’est bien dommage que l’homme ne soit pas plus responsable vis à vis de la nature.
Beautiful image of this dead tree but still standing!
Your text makes this a sad image, yet, the lake brings life in a new form.
