…this structure; once used as a gas station, resembles one where my parents drove away and left me while we were on vacation when I was approximately three years old.
and don’t try to tell me, “but i see they found you”, because i found them before they realized i was missing, but that’s another sagerass memory.
I dream in color, but my memories are black and white.

What we remember from childhood we remember forever; permanent ghosts, stamped, inked, imprinted, eternally seen.

A great vintage capture of an old-fashioned station. Now if only the pumps still remained.
Glad that YOU found your parents. Did you give them the guilt for the remainder of the trip? 🙂
no, i was only 3 years old, so i hadn’t learned that technique yet
I am glad you were reunited. My memory of where my grandmother lived in Lancashire is in b&w. We only went there once and I was very young, but everything, in my memory was grey. My Grandmother was wonderful and she visited us many times and finally came to live with us .
A great image of this old building. It has quite a history for you. I would always remember that! Beautiful processing.
I love that shot. It is sad and beautiful at the same time.
I hope the one you left you at had pumps and a pop machine. If they stopped at an abandoned place like this, I would imagine they would leave so fast you couldn’t find them.
Nice, historic feel to this, Sherri. I hope you weren’t too afraid. I lost my family once in a large store in Denver – about the same age – 3’ish. The store manager helped me find my grandfather despite my lack of cooperation!
Quelle ancienne station serviece et garage sueprbe rendu et tonalité.
Belle soirée
Remember good old days.
A fine vintage look photo accompanied by a sad story.
Beautiful image of the old gas station . Childhood souvenirs are still there .
Memories can invoke feelings as well as images. Well captured.
I remember many gas stations just like that. There is still one (not open) in the small town where my parents lived. It just sits there sad and empty.
Superbe image de souvenirs capturée. Il y a des choses qui nous marque pour toute notre vie !…
i like the image of the old gas station building Sherri… glad you found your folks… and my dreams are in black and white… i think?
….peter:)
Isnt it interesting our our memory recalls things..i dont think i remember in black and white…always in colour…but sometimes i think my mind adds in details that might have not been there.
These old ghosts are becoming more and more rare it seems. This one looks to have been built to last. A beautiful image and processing.
i once dated a guy whose parents left him at a gas starion like that when he was little, he stood on the side of the road and screamed until they finally came back… it still traumatizes him to think of it, to that day.
I recall seeing a photo of this gas station on your site — long time ago.
That’s a memory that, no doubt, has been indelibly set in your memory!
Ozick’s quote is so very true.
