Jackson County, Arkansas
Backwater from the Cache River overflow. It’s part of the Cache River National Wildlife Refuge; a total of 67,000 acres in at least eight counties.
I had taken a wrong turn when I found this section of water. During my time off the beaten path I didn’t see one living soul. It was very unsettling. Actually, it was downright creepy and yet it was still very beautiful.
William Anderson said that
I count myself more fortunate with each passing season to have recourse to these quiet, tree-strewn, untrimmed acres by the water. I would think it a sad commentary on the quality of American life if, with our pecuniary and natural abundance, we could not secure for our generation and those to come the existence of a substantial remnant of a once great endowment of wild and scenic rivers.
Splendid tones and textures captured here! One can feel the stillness of this composition here.
It does look a bit creepy but it is a fabulous picture Sherri
We’ve experienced some floods recently from all the rain but the most dramatic scene I came upon was at one of the local waterfalls — such power.
With your processing and words, this has the feeling of a well maintained old cemetery. The trees representing the grave stones, yet everything seems so tidy. Interesting how different people ‘see’ things differently.
This is one of my favorite of your images. Lovely. Love the repetition, the shapes, the desaturated tones. Just lovely. Good for you for going off the beaten path!
A stark beauty to this stand of trees with their feet in the water. Be careful out there.
That is a superb image. I envy you the place you get to go.
I love these semi-submerged trees. The tones you have selected make it difficult to be sure that is water, not snow between the trunks. Wrong turns can lead to some of the best photo opportunities.
Jolie photo de ces arbres dans l’eau.
An amazing view of these trees in the water. It is weird being out someplace all alone. It is just so eerily quiet and disarming. A superb composition.
That does look like it could be spooky to be all alone there, but it does have an eerie look to it..
*I saw your comment to Steven. I agree with you.
An amazing shot … nice tones/colors … I feel like an old ghost is looking at me from behind those trees …
Unsettling, creepy beauty! You couldn’t describe it better, Sherri, because I’d love to see it like this but would NOT want to be there at night.
What a lovely place nicely captured with those distinctive tapering trunks and the forest ofstrong verticals
What a special shape trunks these trees have.
Mysterious picture
Beautiful composition and tones of the truncs in the snow . Yes we must preserve this nature .
oh wow!!!! it is a beautiful picture, but you are right, i would not have wanted to be standing out there all alone, the silence of the water sucking in the sound of the trees….
Without a wrong turn you would never have been able to take this beautiful photo, seeing this photo I can imagine that you were scared.
This is absolutely gorgeous, Sherri! You’ve made a really wonderful image here!
