always closed on Mondays
One of the ongoing projects of modern art, and probably its most serious, is to tell what it’s really like to be living here now. Not what it’s like on television or in advertisements, not what it’s like to be a cohort, but what it’s like to be a man or a woman in that unique body that’s always living an odd life. Against the forces of false persuasion the artist offers an undeniable sort of truth, stated in simple human terms, minus the jargon and the emblems of expertise and false authority. It’s always a voice and the voice always says: this is how it is for me, and I hope you understand.
— John Rosenthal said that
A delicate, subtle and monochromatic slice of life. Life at standstill that is. Beautiful. A the quote by Rosenthal, could be the motto for any documentary photographer. Very well said.
I love the subtle colors. It reminds me of the small town near where I grew up. Everything is pretty much closed for good in the “downtown” area.
good barber shops are hard to find these days… i like this old style one very much Sherri….Peter:)
i like this old fashioned kind of a barber shop, Sherri. i find them sometimes in Penang i am there.
Just to allow you the shot of a nice picture.
In the Netherlands, all hairdressers are closed on Mondays too ! =:0-)
Superbe barbier et sa facade avec la paorte l’arche ces tons mervielleux
belle soirée
Such a vintage appeal this barber shop has!! Then I see the modern “open” sign. Barber poles are rarely seen these days.
Fine image – not permanently closed, I hope!
I like the tones you have used here Sherri.
i like the old style of this barber shop, here in Holland the hairdressers are also closed on Mondays.
Looks like a slice of small town America.
Such a terrific shot. I like that partially exposed brick in the upper wall.
A wonderful image. You just don’t see these small shops that much anymore. Beautifully photographed and processed.
I like the photo with its small town, old-time feeling. I am baffled by the quote. First, what the heck does it mean, and second, how does it fit with Harold’s closed barbershop. Without looking John Rosenthal up, my guess is that he is a PhD in a discipline I probably couldn’t define,
Magnifique composition. Ce métier revient à la mode ! .
J’aime beaucoup cette devanture !!! un petit air vintage !
I wonder what Harold does on Mondays 🙂
Harold’s been a barber for a long long time.
A superb image !
Belle prise chère Sherri! La devanture est superbe! Bise, bonne journée toute douce!
I completely agree with the statement. I like the simple and muted image.
although this image could easily have been decades many decades ago, it truly is a modern day reality as Rosenthal explains. I love everything about this image.
phooey, that should have read, “taken many decades ago,”
not sure if that picture looks like it’s from here and now, tho lolol it’s a lovely barbershop… i tried to go into a barbershop once, to get my pixie cut buzzed for cheap, and they kicked me out… i told them that i’m a man in the midst of a sex change, they didn’t buy it 🙂
