The places we have known do not belong only to the world of space on which we map them for our convenience. None of them was ever more than a thin slice, held between the contiguous impressions that composed our life at that time; the memory of a particular image is but regret for a particular moment; and houses, roads, avenues, are as fugitive, alas, as the years.
Marcel Proust said that
The old downtowns are an iconic “locale” that many prefer to preserve rather than the suburban sprawl where it looks like “Anywhere, USA” Buildings, facades and even awnings make an area unique. Great capture with interesting processing to give it a vintage appeal.
I really like the way you’ve given this such a lovely and appealing vintage appeal. Even here, in a town, the largesse of the sky adds so much to the story you’re conveying. I think a lot of photographers miss a great opportunity by not photographing what they see and live within on a daily basis, however they choose to depict it. It’s important to document how our towns, cities, villages are today. Had photographers (back in ‘the day’) not photographed how their places were we wouldn’t have that sense of history. It’s an important documentation. All that said, in addition to what I found appealed, I really do like this simply for its aesthetic.
love the blown out treatment … it could be a water color
I really love the treatment here Sherri
i love your picture of downtown Sherri… it reminds me of parts of our time when i was a boy…
Marcel Proust said it well… looking back at these are just slices in time holding on the particular moment and feelings….peter:)
This lovely image has such a timeless feel to it – today, yesterday, or long ago. There are no cars to give a clue.
Wow, this is an excellent street shot! I love the processing.
I love the processing of this fabulous image. It suits it to a tee.
wonderful small town main street photo. the Beatles song immediately came to mind:
There are places I remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever, not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I’ve loved them all
What a great image, Sherri! Looks like “anytown” USA – in that it feels so familiar!
I love this image. Wonderful point of view and gorgeous treatment. It is perfect.
Joli traitement pour ces maisons anciennes.
When I see a place like this, Sherri, I’m immediately taken to a past memory that hardly seems possible anymore!
Beautiful treatment of this downtown view. Your words perfectly sit alongside the photo.
this is stunning, and i was thinking it looks like my father’s hometown….. back then… then that Proust comment brought the feelings to go with it xoxoxxoxoxoxoxox
Not all my image memories are a cause for regret. Not by a long chalk 🙂 Interesting street scene and treatment
Your treatment is fantastic as always, also a attractive chosen composition.
Excellent photo and processing. It says: small town USA!
