we’ve been having excessive heat warnings for over a week now and finally today the temps are supposed to stay 95° Fahrenheit or below. much better than 101° Fahrenheit with a heat index of 116° Fahrenheit. it will be a welcome reprieve for everything and everyone. we’ve been watering our gardens and lawn every morning and evening to keep them alive and one unexpected observation is the birds become very confused during the watering process. yesterday, a mama cardinal taught her babies to fly off the edge of our front porch. a couple of hours later, during the evening watering, she became disoriented and flew into our full glass door. bless her heart. my husband buried her.
The camera makes everyone a tourist in other people’s reality.
Susan Sontag said that
Here we think 80f is hot. Well, to be honest 70f is hot enough for me. I couldn’t cope with 111!
it’s a shame to have a wheelbarrow full with so many culled flowers from your flowerbed Sherri… after the heat wave…. it’s sad to here about the mama cardinal….peter:)
The cart has been turned into a beautiful display for these colorful hydrangea! Glad to hear that the heat wave is starting to subside to provide you the much needed relief.
Oh the poor dear bird. Extreme heat is hard on all creatures, domestic or otherwise.
We’ve been in the opposite situation here. A LONG, very cool and very wet spring. Nearly no heat at all. A couple days about 2 weeks ago and all of a sudden today and the next are back into the high 20’s at long last. I’m not sure what that is in Fahrenheit but I do know it’s no where near 90!
I understand your issue with the heat. The temps have been staying in the +100’s and up to 105 and higher around here.
In the early Spring we spent $$ having new grass sod put down, and now we are fighting to keep it alive. If we have to go on water rationing we might lose it all. Bummer. So sad for all of the wildlife. We saw a coyote eating mesquite beans, and possums rob our bird feeder. We keep water out for everyone. Your poor cardinal! Your flowers and grass look like they are holding on.
These hydrangeas are gorgeous. I love the colors! I have seen on the news every evening the dangerous temperature in the mid west. There just seems to be no end in sight. Stay safe and keep hydrated and take good care of yourself. That breaks my heart about your female cardinal.
