I got up every morning,

— Melba Pattillo said that
image notes: the red, brick structure on the right, behind the gas station is Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. Melba was one of “The Little Rock Nine”. Today, Central High School attracts students from all over the world and is well known for the students’ diversity and scholastic achievements.
Bravery can be found in all kinds of people. Ms. Pattillo is surely proof of that assertion. I can only imagine the bravery it took to be a part of integrating this school.

So much history here. A great image.
Interesting history. I love the look of that old gas station, or back in the day I guess it was a “filling station”, right?
Excellent post, Sherri. I love the processing on this… and that quote by Melba. Thank God for her strength!
Une station à l’ancienne. Nous n’en voyons plus beaucoup, dommage c’était sympathique de se faire servir. Une parole, un échange bien agréable.
A lovely image with a real story. Excellent.

she went to war and won.
Before I read what you wrote, I was admiring those old gas pumps yet how modern the station appears to be.
Interesting how the service station seems white and prominent yet the story going on in the background so perfectly parallels the historical evolution
