she was dressed for, and playing the part of a southern belle in an American Civil War reenactment
then, she took a break and i took her pic
Still, there is something predatory in the act of taking a picture. To photograph people is to violate them, by seeing them as they never see themselves, by having knowledge of them they can never have; it turns people into objects that can be symbolically possessed.

an interesting unposed portrait
I like the shadow created by the brim of the hat. A wonderful portrait. A very interesting quote.
The is an interplay between the shadows and her gloves. A really nice portrait and a I love the quote.
Susan Sontag was right… Frank and I often mention this kind of thing when we dare to take a candid of someone we don’t know. That said – your boldness has given us a wonderful image to look at!
I guess there’s really no such thing as privacy anymore, Sherri, is there?! But when we’re out in public, I guess we aren’t private , right? Photography if the photo journalism that speaks louder than a thousand words. Well done.
Love the play of light and shadow.
Un portrait très classe !
J’aime beaucoup !
I agree 100% with Susan.
For me it is very difficult to take pictures of people. For this very reason I value yours very positively
Un magnifique portrait !!! et j’aime beaucoup ta citation !
i remember those minimalist cigarette ads in women’s magazines lol yes, a long way TOWARD lung cancer and emphysema!!
that quote about taking people’s pictures is a bit like the start of a horror movie script lol
great shot tho, i must say!!
If she was staying in character perhaps it should have been a cheroot 🙂
Really nice and expressive portrait, you did well with the lights, Phil
Very beautiful black and white between shadow and light. A lot of look this lady
This is a lovely candid picture.
I too am very loath to take pictures of people in public but if everyone thought that, the photographic world would be missing such a lot.
Very nice portrait and said.
A wonderful image and I like your way to tell the storyof your pictures !!
The shadow pattern on her face adds a certain drama to this portrait.
i love the light and shadow, Sherri. and interesting quote too.
Beautiful the shadow of the gloves on her face, attractive portrait in fine b/w.
Great candid Sherri.
A beautiful image, clean in every detail, on that face you read a story.
La projection de la Lumière au travers des trous du chapeau sur ce visage fantastique

Joli portrait avec un beau jeu d’ombre.
A beautiful lady, lovely shadows off of her hat, great portrait. Love the gloves.
Excellent candid capture with perfect clarity!! I love the shadows that dance on her face.
I feel like Susan Sontag though the resulting images, like yours, are always worth it. I love the image and, to me, it tells a story even without knowing what she had been doing before it was taken. A writer could have a field day with this one.
