3 bells

3 bells

so, perhaps you’ve heard someone say, “how many bells is it?” when they wanted to know what time it was. that saying comes from people who remember bells chiming the number of the hour from a clock tower.

this image contains two structures; a courthouse in the forefront and a church building behind it. both structures have a clock tower and both chime at the top of the hour. one of them has a “don, don, don…” sound, much like a gong and the other one is a more pleasant, higher pitched “din, din, din…”

the church building also has the capability of playing songs through the pipe organ and sometimes in the middle of the day, a melody wafts through the air to our home. i’ve heard remarks from people in town who don’t care for it, but i personally love the songs, the chiming and the dins and dons.

since we’re only about two blocks from here, if i happen to be awake in the middle of the night and it’s during the top of the hour, i know exactly what time it is.

To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place. I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.
