do you remember, back in the day (old people use phrases like that), when we had console TV’s ? remember how, after time, they would get to the point where a black screen with a white, horizontal line would appear when you first turned it on ?
if you remember that, then you’ll remember two other things. first, you’ll know the fix for the line. that’s right, you pounded the top of the TV with your fist and voilà, the picture appeared.
however, before a TV got to the point where the line appeared, it would take spells where the picture would glitch and there would be moments of lines across the screen. we’d all groan every time the screen got a glitch because you couldn’t watch the show with glitches across the screen and my dad would say, “it’s interference from a short wave radio” or “someone has a police scanner nearby” or something along those lines.
well, apparently somebody either liked those glitches, or somebody much younger wishes they could have lived with glitches because there is a graphic trend called “glitch” and it’s creating those square, pixelated lines across a photograph or a graphic design.
this capture of a retro McDonald’s has transparency and glitch applied to it.
why? trends.
Cool retro shot of the McDonald’s.
well, I hope to find a tutorial on how to do this so I can avoid it at all costs.
Surprenant construction pour ce Macdo.
Everything old becomes new again… 🙂 Great post, Sherri!
Oh my, Sherri. It’s so true. Even some digital photographers are now going back to film. We really ARE “old,” aren’t we. HA!
Original ce Mac do.
How very interesting. I also remember when McDonald’s used to sell a hamburger for 15 cents.
Sherri bayabeee, my parents didn’t have kids until my mom was in her 40’s … so they had one of those console tvs stored in the hallway by my bedroom… i recall sneaking out as a little girl to watch the moonlanding on it… tho i don’t think that tv had been retired that long before then… my parents didn’t want us to watch tv, and i don’t think we even had one in the living room for years! and i love the processing of this picture, it reminds me of old polaroid cameras… my parents had one of the ones you had to wipe the chemicals onto the photo with a little squeegeeee lol I just watched a movie last night called ‘Time Zero’ about the last year of polaroid… i was quite sad by the end, that it was the end of that era.
No accounting for taste…both for glitches and McDonalds
My husband remember the first McDOnald’s n NJ. In his mind it probably looks something like your image. I do not remember glotches in our old tvs. My Dad oerated a short wave radio in our basement and was an electrical engineer, so he probably knew how to avoid them on our tv.
Quelle mvue avec ce flou cet effet génail.
Belle journée
Une belle photo ! Un beau mac do
The early days of television were something else! Mind you we were as fascinated by it as kids are now by what can be done with a smartphone. What will our kids children be seeing when they have children in their turn?
I remember my folks getting a piece of plastic like material with red, blue and green bars on it to make a “color” TV out of our B&W console. It was ridiculously funky.
A cool image as a result of this Hamburger restaurant called MCDonalds.
That certainly brings back memories! Especially the pounding on the TV. I remember the first time I went to McDonald’s. A great image!
Superb retro picture !
I remember when the sign told you how many burgers they’d sold 🙂
We had one tv station and most winters it would be off the air because of all the snow. There are so many movies that I have never seen right through.
a clever shot, Sherri, it is easy to overdo these things but i think you struck a nice balance (imo)
A great sentimental look back that brings forth memories in your narrative!! Excellent retro shot of this McDonald’s!!
trends.
Imperfection has its own beauty right? When its so easy for anyone to capture a perfect picture with todays technology, glitch art is kind of the anti-tech.
