The only truly affluent are those who do not want more than they have.
Erich Fromm said that
What a shame that the historic home was demolished. I am surprised that the homeowner didn’t need to get a Certificate of Appropriateness or that the village didn’t have a demolition delay ordinance to prevent something like this from happening. It definitely was a beauty with a lot of charm! I love how it is nestled in with the trees and shrubs.
a sad story so often repeated
your image will help preserve the memory, but that is little consolation
Oh, I think we do know how you really feel, and I agree with you.
Well, first – I love your image. The use of light and your processing give an “old timey feel”
Second. – shame on him. It absolutely disgusts me how wealthy people often have zero regard for the communities they purport to serve or even their neighbors. I can’t believe the town / city managers and planning & zoning folks allowed all of this to go on. It’s despicable.
Jolie maison en bois, elle est belle en blanc.
DITTO Elizabeth!!! I’m appalled…and sickened!
that’s terrrible!! what kind of stone heart do you have to have to do that to an historic house!
are there no building controls? Here it would be listed and impossible to demolish. It looks beautifully cared for in your shot too
Wonderful image , tones, atmosphere…I can’t understand that : someone who says “I don’t need it anymore so we demolish…”
These historic blunders also happen in the Netherlands, a lot has already been lost.
It is a lovely picture to go with a story that makes the blood boil! Here many historic buildings are protected by being listed but also may are not and some lovely buildings have been lost as a result!
Très jolie maison.
Les politiques font souvent n’importe quoi. Je ressent ta douleur.
there are a lot of things that i would like to say to that politician as well Sherri… at least that beautiful tree hides the house some….peter:)
You know , I live in new Jersey where a ton of history happened during the Revolutionary War. And do you see anything of history around? Nothing! Save historic buildings!
oh my gosh that is horrendous! I can’t believe he wasn’t fined or somehow received some sort of consequence. And here I was thinking what a delightful and well cared for home that is and how many families must have made beautiful memories within its walls.
I’d forgotten how much I enjoy your images and words.
