And they never make any money according to them. This is a world wide phenomenon as I learned when in Japan. I asked about farmers and crop prices. My students said farmers, in Japan, have the same sad tale of never making any money. 😉

You have captured the hard working, yet thankless job of a farmer beautifully.

The desaturation and the dust really give the feeling of hot dry weather. Yes Farmers always moan but they work hard and for long hours

Your processing in B&W really makes the dust cyclone stand out nicely in this field. It also gives the feeling that this must have been a very hot, dry day. Given what JFK has stated, I really feel sorry for the farmer!

I agree with the quote as it applies to the traditional family farmer. But over the last 70 or 80 years, price supports, quotas and things like futures trading and crop insurance have moved the farmer more toward a traditional business. And the rise over the last several decades of factory farms and integrated supply chains have given the “farmer” purchasing power to get wholesale prices, and access to the prices paid by the retail consumer.

I really like this photo. Dry is definitely what I would say too.
It’s really very sad that farmers do the hard work, high risks, yet are never properly compensated. Not even close. And yet the middle and end-retailers are the ones making all the profit. It’s not right but I don’t know if it will ever change.

Excellent quote. I live in a rural area and I see the hard work required to farm. I also see the joy.
