To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter. To be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird’s nest or a wildflower in spring; these are some of the rewards of the simple life.
— John Burroughs said that

she could not be persuaded to use one of the hundreds of trees in our neighborhood

An awkward place to nest that doesn’t appear to be out of reach from humans or predators. I bet there was warmth radiating from the brick wall which led to this location. The brick course pattern really stands out nicely.

She may have made a wish choice. As storms moved through our area with high winds, the trees were really blowing, and she has a stabel base.

Every year, we hang fuchsia baskets in the front of the house. Every year, a bird will make a nest in the basket.

It is funny how birds tend to do this. It seems like it is almost out of desperation to find a suitable place for a nest.

there is an old saying that “home is where you hang your hat.” I guess this demonstrates that home is where you lay your eggs.

AN unusual spot for a nest. Every year we have a nest atop one of our outdoor garage lights
