Many gardeners will agree that hand-weeding is not the terrible drudgery it is often made out to be. Some people find in it a kind of soothing monotony. It leaves their minds free to develop the plot for their next novel or to perfect the brilliant repartee with which they should have encountered a person’s latest example of unreasonableness.

Ha ha, I hate weeding. I guess that’s why I don’t like gardening.

I have mixed feelings about weeding. It’s nice to see progress and get something done, but if there are too many weeds it can be overwhelming. Nice shot. It reminds me of my mother, years ago.

I agree with Christopher’s quote. To me, it’s a time of meditation and thinking. And being away from the computer. A great candid shot!

I used to enjoy weeding somewhat, for the reasons mentioned in the quote! Lovely, Sherri!

HA! It’s so true, Sherri. I find it to be therapeutic whenever I do it. It’s been awhile, however, since we don’t have our own yard. But I have often helped my sister in her yard and I totally get the quote. Gotta love the irises in this IMAGE, too!

I used to often listen to the commentary on the Cricket whilst gardening. These days my back starts to play up if I do too much weeding…but there is something quietly satisfying about it

Great image — I really appreciate images of people doing things, the ordinary or not so ordinary.
I used to feel that way about gardening — it was my therapy. The last place we were in, the work was too much for the first time in my life. I love to spend time in the yard but more puttering now. Though I have reawakened to vegetable gardening and that is work (though I don’t feel it’s work).
