a penny for your thoughts?

someone said “a color photo is about color, a black and white photo is about everything else,” or something similar, but I can’t find the source. With the subject matter and the title “gREy” a quote about smog and soot would also be appropriate.

A good choice to use monotone… It does add to the subject here.

You’ve just reminded me of something my nephew told me years ago, Sherri. He said the best B&W images start with color because there’s more information to manipulate when you do the conversion. Fascinating…and yes, perfect for your image here.

With a good processing, a color photograph can indeed become a beautiful black and white.

well bill burt was likely correct.
The steam coming out of the stack gives some movement to this but it’s the birds that I especially like adding both movement but almost as though asking a larger question.

I like the tones throughout the image. The subject seems to ask for B&W.

I tend to like color but some shots just beg for B&W.
